CBD Jello Shots made with Monk Botanicals

I gotta tell you my friends, I underestimated jello.

It comes in a cute little box. It’s a simple process that typically involves water and powder and YET, I spent every night last week elbow-deep in bowls of multicolored flubbery trying to master the art. That’s why I stand before you today, proud as can BE, that I birthed the masterpiece known as the CBD Jello Shot.

These are a fun alternative to that bottle of red wine you keep schlepping to dinner parties and are a wonderful conversation piece as CBD and Cannabis rule the latest wellness and beauty trends.

These jello shots are made using Monk Botanicals, a line of all-natural CBD juices that can be served on their own or mixed into recipes for an extra boost of CBD zen. 😇

Our recipes used Monk’s Grapefruit Cayenne, Rosemary Orange Peel and Ginger Maple Shrub botanicals since they each have a distinct and natural sweetness but any of Monk’s botanicals can be gelatinized. So gelatinize at will! And be sure to use the “CYNTIVEE” discount code to get 15% off your purchase!

You can read more about each recipe below but go ahead, try these out! Be a trendsetter.

On Fruit Skin Cups

I decided to serve these jello shots in orange, lemon and lime peels because I’m trying to be the Latina Martha Stewart of Cannabis, but you do not have to follow suit to enjoy these treats. In case you’re interested though, you’ll want to make these fruit skin bowls before you make the gelatin so that the jello shots can go straight into the refrigerator once mixed.

Fruit skin cups (optional):

  1. Slice orange in half and gut the insides (juice, pulp, everything out!). I recommend cutting alongside the edges of the orange with a knife first and then gutting it out with a spoon.

  2. Place on a cookie sheet or muffin tin to keep the peels facing up.

Note about Boiling vs. Warming: Although the instructions for gelatin typically call for boiling water, I avoided that altogether in the case that boiling a CBD-based juice would affect the CBD levels. The boiling water in traditional recipes serves to dissolve the gelatin powder but warm liquids work as well, so I opted for warming the juice to a near boil in a small pot on medium low-heat instead :) You can also use the double-boiler method!

Grapefruit Cayenne CBD Jello Shot

The Grapefruit Cayenne CBD jello shot has a delightfully sweet citrus flavor with a spicy kick reminiscent of a jalapeño margarita so if you’re an adventurer, be sure to give this one a try!  💃🏽

Ingredients for 8 “slices”:

  • 2 Knox Original Unflavored Gelatin Packets

  • 2 bottles of Monk Grapefruit Cayenne Botanicals

  • 1-2 tbsps honey

  • 2 Oranges (optional; see fruit skins recipe above)

To make Grapefruit Cayenne CBD Jello:

  • In a small pot, bring1.5 cups of your Grapefruit Cayenne Botanical to a near-boil. (See note about boiling vs. warming at the top of the post).

  • Separately, in a mixing bowl, sprinkle the 2 gelatin pouches over 1/2 cup cold Grapefruit Cayenne Botanical. Let stand for 1 minute.

  • Add warm juice mix over the cold mixture and stir constantly for 2 minutes or until granules are completely dissolved.

  • Add honey to taste. I found that 1 ‘squirt’ was enough.

Final Steps:

  • Pour final gelatin mixture into the fruit skins or serving cups so that it reaches the top.

  • Refrigerate 4-6 hours until firm (overnight is preferable).

  • [If using the fruit skins] Once your gelatin has set, slice each half orange skin in half to make 8 quarter slices. These don’t always gelatinize perfectly so feel free to use scissors to cut the fruit skins into more even and presentable slices.

On Dosing

The dosing of these jello shots will depend on the size of your serving receptacle but if you’re using orange peels, each halved orange will hold approximately ¼- ½ cup of gelatin mixture. Each Monk Botanical contains 1 cup of juice and 20 mg of CBD so each halved orange will be between 5-10 mgs of CBD.

When served according to the recipe, in quarter slices of jello, each slice will clock in at approximately 2.5-5 mgs. These are VERY small doses of CBD so they’re perfect for munching on several. A daily dosage of CBD ranges from 10-40 mgs so even an entire ‘orange’ of CBD jello shot servings (4 slices) would be within normal daily intake. But of course, if you have any questions be sure to check out my video on Getting Started with CBD or reach out directly!
